I'm sure you'll have a great time in Japan. Furthermore, it's always interesting to change someone's life, at least for a limited amount of time. I'd like to be able to say "WTF!I'll go somewhere else! NOW!". Hey, wasn't you the one who taught me "Bright eyes, blinded by fear of life"? Don't let the fear blind you, it's a great chance: new culture, new country, new food...almost new everything. However, I have to confess you something: I'm still plenty of fears inside, that's why, somehow, I can understand some of your fears, and why it's difficult to get rid of them. Yeah, loosing time and youth... this is how I feel when I stop to think, so please, don't think too much about it, and c'mon, we both know that you have never lost your time. I'm sure this experience will be great and maybe you'll find what you are looking for. Of course it will be hard at the beginning, and the worse will be the cultural clash (but I think you are doing a lot to avoid it: You are learning the language and reading on Japanese culture, so it won't be that taugh!). And while you are there, remember this U2 lyrics, I'm sure it will help you: "There's no failiure here sweetheart, just when you quit".
